Snook and I have been talking about Refresh Ottawa for a while now and to be very honest, we were astounded at how many people showed up and showed interest in our first Refresh Ottawa meetup. We really wanted to do another one after SXSW in March, but for a variety of reasons, that just didn’t happen - not least of which is the overall activity level in Ottawa.
There are loads of other groups and meetups in Ottawa that we follow and hear about. But what makes Refresh different? Hard to say - neither of us has been to many of the other meetups.
I decided it was time to remind myself what Refresh is all about:
Refresh is a community of designers and developers working to refresh the creative, technical, and professional culture of New Media endeavors in the Ottawa region. Promoting design, technology, usability, and standards, Refresh Ottawa is a part of Refresh and the associated Refreshing Cities.
Ah, yes, that’s it. We’re web geeks. That’s what we do. That’s who we are. We love the web, believe that we have a phenomenal web community here in Ottawa, filled with serious talent. Refresh is about, and for, that community.
What next?
Well, we want to do another Refresh Ottawa night. A number of people wrote to use after the first one back in January. If you did express that interest, please let us know again — we’d love to hear ideas from everyone about what the next Refresh Ottawa should entail.
Just remember - we’ll always have a few common things:
- there will be an informally formal presentation or two
- there will always be a social component
- there will likely be many iPhones
So, if you’d like to present to the group, send us your thoughts on what you’d like to share, when you’d like to share it, and we’ll take it from there.
